As the industry landscape changes rapidly as a result of megatrends - from globalization and convergence to service oriented architecture (SOA) and everything-as-a-service - IT users, investors, and vendors must be ready to adapt quickly. In this session, John Gantz, IDC's WW Chief Research Officer will put these trends in perspective, examine the pivot points of change, look for intersections, and discuss what that implies for technology users and vendors. The intent will be to examine the potential unintended consequences of these trends, and develop a road map for those traversing the new landscape in search of opportunity.

The world would witness small businesses become big, more software become services, more services become software, business IT players become more "consumer-ish", and consumer players become more businesslike. In this presentation, Pradeep Gupta, Managing Director, IDC India and CMD, CyberMedia Group will lay out the key developments that will impact the IT industry worldwide, India's role in shaping these developments and what IT players in India need to do to be able to swim successfully with the tide.

Data Centers are rapidly evolving to meet increasing IT needs of organizations with broader objectives of availability, resilience and change management. Though, today the focus is majorly on basic operational issues like data center power and cooling, tomorrow's data centes will have to cope with more than just these utility issues, in line with need for dynamic IT infrastructure. The understanding and deployment of new technologies such as SOA, Web 2.0 and converged networks into the data center offerings will be the most important dimension in this transition. In this session, Sanjit Sinha, Associate Vice President, Research, IDC India will uncover some interesting dynamics with respect to interplay of technologies in the evolution of data centers.
12:30 Session 5 - Aligning IT with Business: The Indian CIO’s Priorities
Invited Speaker
A big part of “being ready for what lies ahead” means being prepared for the unexpected; being able to exploit new opportunities as rapidly as these present themselves. This is how organizations will succeed in the future – not by anticipating the unknown, as this is becoming increasingly impossible, but by being agile enough to adapt and change when the time comes. Does today's CIO think the same way? What are the priorities that are taking up most of the CIO’s time? What plans do the CIOs have in store which would enable them to align IT ever more closer with business objectives? Packed with some insightful CIO survey results, this session will delve into the major 'pain points' of CIOs. These would be analysed and presented to interpret how these 'pain points' can translate into opportunities for IT vendors.

15:45 Session 8 - Demystifying Emerging Enterprises: The New Market Goldmine
Parijat Chakraborty, Associate Vice President, Research, IDC (India) Ltd.
Vendors are struggling to devise winning strategies to cater to the needs of the mid market segment. The game plan with respect to large enterprises in terms of individual account management & small businesses in terms of mass market strategy is clearly defined and practiced. However, this is not so clear with the mid market segment, where it is important to build elements of both specific solution delivery and mass market distribution in the broader plan of action. In this presentation, Parijat Chakraborty, Associate Vice President, Research, IDC India will address the key issues on ground and highlight the key elements of a winning strategy to cater to the needs of the mid market segment.
16:15 Session 9 - Convergence and the Morphing of the Mobile Device
Analyst Photo
Dr. Shiv K. Bakhshi, Director, Mobile Technology & Trends/ Devices Research, IDC US
The once-humble cell phone has, in recent years, emerged as the singular laboratory for testing the limits of technological convergence. Driven by digitization, and aided by advances in processing and display technologies, as well as improvements in memory and miniaturization, the cell phone has increasingly appropriated key attributes of many useful consumer devices, from music players and radios to digital cameras and television, to emerge as the mobile device of choice. However, the proliferation of access technologies and the advent of network convergence - that allows multiple access technologies to be tied to a common network core - has created the impetus for many consumer devices themselves to be directly connected to the network. Dr. Shiv K. Bakhshi discusses the implications that this convergence has for the world of mobile devices, and how the mobile device once known as the cell phone is morphing to contend with emerging
technological and business realities.
