John Gantz, Chief Research Officer and Senior Vice President, IDC US
John Gantz As Chief Research Officer and Senior Vice President of IDC, John Gantz has responsibility for IDC’s worldwide demand-side research, global market models, and research quality control and standards. He is also a member of IDC's management committee, chief architect of IDC's Global Internet Commerce Market Model, TM, IT Economic Impact Model, and PC Software Piracy research. He is one of IDC's chief spokespersons on broad technology and market issues at major forums in the United States and around the world.
Prior to joining IDC in September 1992, Mr. Gantz was vice president and chief analyst for Dataquest and director of that company's Software Research Group. Before joining Dataquest in 1991, Mr. Gantz was executive vice president of TFS, Inc., a custom research and consulting company that he co-founded in 1983.
Mr. Gantz has been an IT industry analyst and columnist for more than 30 years. His publications and columns have appeared in Fortune, Forbes, Computerworld, Infoworld, Computer Graphics World, and Industry Week. Additional national and international exposure has come through quotes in all major business publications, interviews on CNN, NBC, Reuters, Bloomberg and other network news shows, and chairperson assignments at major computer industry trade shows. For the last five years, he has also been a judge of the CIO China awards. Most recently, he has become IDC's chief spokesperson on the issue of digital piracy.
Mr. Gantz is a graduate of Dartmouth College, former Navy submarine officer, and co-author of Pirates of the Digital Millennium (Prentice Hall 2005) and The Naked Computer (Morrow, 1983). He has run two Boston Marathons and hiked the Appalachian Trail end-to-end (1973). He is married with two sons.
Pradeep Gupta, Managing Director, IDC (India) Ltd. and Chairman, CyberMedia Group
Pradeep is an Engineer from IIT Delhi (1975) and an MBA from IIM Calcutta (1977).
He is the CMD of Cyber Media India Ltd., India's leading niche media company which publishes 9 publications in India including Dataquest, PCQuest, Voice & Data Living Digital and BioSpectrum with a combined reader base of 1.4 million. CyberMedia is an integrated media company with presence in Market Research, Multimedia, Events, Online Portals, Education, TV and Media BPO services.
Pradeep is also the founder Director of SQL Star International and General Partner of Infinity Ventures. He is also the past Chairman of e-Gurucool. He is on the Board of Kaleidoscope Entertainment and is a Charter Member of TiE, Delhi.
He is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni award of IIT Delhi.
Kapil Dev Singh, Country Manager, IDC (India) Ltd.
Kapil Dev Singh is the country manager of IDC (India) Limited and in this capacity he is responsible for the management and business operations of the company in India.
Kapil has over twelve years of industry experience, of which close to ten years is in business research. In his earlier stints, Kapil has headed several new initiatives at IDC (India) Limited including software & services research, corporate research, Internet research etc. Of these Kapil built up the Software & Services Research practice from scratch. Prior to joining IDC, Kapil worked for three years with IMRB (part of the WPP group and southern Asia’s largest research firm) and for one year with the HCL group. Kapil is widely quoted in the press and is a regular speaker at various industry forums.
Kapil’s areas of interest include industry analysis, business strategy, change management, resource planning and teaching.
Kapil holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical) from Bengal Engineering College (Calcutta University) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (Calcutta University). Kapil believes in continual improvement through a systematic approach and himself is a lead auditor for ISO 9001: 2000 requirements.
Sanjit Sinha heads the Hardware, Software and Services Research and the Consulting Group at IDC India. Based in Delhi, Sanjit manages the business and operations of three critical groups, Computing Products Research, Peripherals Research and Software and Services Research. He also heads IDC India’s new foray into the field of Business Consulting Services.
Prior to joining IDC, Sanjit headed the Industrial Market Research for South India at AC Nielsen-ORG MARG based out of Bangalore. Sanjit has also worked in sales during the initial days of his career.
Sanjit is an engineer from Bengal Engineering College and holds a MBA degree from IISWBM, Kolkata, with specialisation in Marketing.
Praveen Sengar, Research Manager, IDC (India) Ltd.
Praveen Sengar is Manager with Software and Services Research group. He is responsible for market analysis research and identifying opportunities across Packaged Software market. He handles the Packaged Software market tracker for IDC in India.
Praveen has worked with Organizations like Lowe Lintas in brand management and Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals in marketing.
Praveen graduated from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University with a Masters in International Business (specializing in International Marketing).
Bryan Ma, Director, Asia/Pacific Personal Systems Research, IDC Asia/Pacific (New Delhi)
Bryan Ma is the Director of Personal Systems research at IDC Asia/Pacific. Based in Singapore, Bryan is responsible for coordinating IDC's analysis of PCs, mobile phones, handhelds/PDAs, displays, and consumer markets research across 16 countries in the Asia/Pacific region. Bryan and his team of analysts provide IDC’s clients with detailed insight via quarterly market sizing, competitive analysis, forecasts, and advisory services. Bryan has been the recipient of several recognitions at IDC, including three Research Quality awards as well as IDC's Global Fellowship.
Bryan has been quoted in a number of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, BusinessWeek, International Herald Tribune, USA Today, Investors Business Daily, South China Morning Post, Far Eastern Economic Review, CNET News.com, and The New York Times. He has been a featured speaker at numerous industry conferences and appears frequently as a guest commentator on television networks such as CNBC.
Bryan has been with IDC since 1999, when he joined IDC’s Consumer Devices team in California. There, he led IDC’s US and worldwide coverage of internet access devices, telematics, and MP3 players. He also played a key role in initiating IDC's research of the streaming media market. In 2001, Bryan transferred to the Singapore office to head up IDC’s Asia/Pacific Personal Systems research team.
Prior to joining IDC, Bryan was a Business Analyst at Arthur Andersen in Los Angeles, where he was part of the firm's Business Consulting practice specializing in the financial services industry. Bryan holds a degree in electrical engineering from UCLA, and his university internships included experiences at IBM, Rockwell Semiconductor (now Conexant), Acuson (now part of Siemens), and PaineWebber (now part of UBS). Born and raised in the US, Bryan is fluent in English and conversant in Mandarin Chinese.
Piyush Pushkal, Research Manager, IDC (India) Ltd. (Bangalore)
Piyush Pushkal is Manager with the Computing Products and Channels Research Group. He is responsible for tracking the PC Market trends in India, PC retail market in India along with Storage Media Market.
Piyush has completed his Masters in Business Administration, specialising in Marketing from the EMPI Business School, New Delhi. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics from Manipal Institute of Technology under Mangalore University, Manipal (Karnataka State).
Parijat looks after five key ICT research markets at IDC India. These are: Communications Research, Telecom User Research, IT User Research, Industry Verticals Research and CxO Advisory Services.
Parijat has served with IDC India for the past six years and has an overall experience of more than twelve years in the research and consultancy field. He has been instrumental in initiating and driving some pioneering and path breaking studies in understanding the domestic Indian IT and Telecom markets.
Parijat is a regular speaker at various industry forums and is frequently quoted in the business and industry press.
Dr. Shiv K. Bakhshi, Director, Mobile Technology & Trends/ Devices Research, IDC US
Shiv K. Bakhshi is currently the director in charge of mobility research at IDC.
Dr. Bakhshi plans and directs IDC's worldwide research efforts pertaining to mobility, including mobile phones, converged devices and mobile applications (both consumer and enterprise related). In addition to Mobility Markets, he directs and oversees IDC's Worldwide Handheld and Mobile Phone Q-Views as well as IDC's Mobility Metrics research. Along with his team, he provides research and consulting services in areas covering mobile industry dynamics, mobile technologies, competitive strategies of industry players, as well as the end-user needs shaping the handheld device market.
Before assuming his current role, Dr. Bakhshi was the director of IDC's worldwide wireless and mobile infrastructure practice, with a special focus on the opportunities and challenges facing infrastructure vendors selling radio access and core network equipment to mobile network operators worldwide.
Specializing in mobility and device markets, Dr. Bakhshi is a recognized expert in wireless network migration and convergence as well as in mobile devices and wireless broadband markets. Among the top-rated speakers at IDC, Dr. Bakhshi has presented on a broad range of topics, including mobility, convergence and IMS. A frequent speaker at industry and academic conferences, he has presented, among other fora, at CTIA, TelecomNext, SuperComm, 3GSM, ComNet, Harvard University, IDC Directions, Indian Institutes of Management, George Mason University, International Communications Association and the National Communication Association.
Prior to joining IDC, Dr. Bakhshi was the Principal Telecommunications Analyst for Standard & Poor's Global Industry Insight (GII) group. In that role, he headed the group's effort at mapping the global telecommunications industry for S&P's web-based vertical product.
In his earlier life, Dr. Bakhshi was a professor at the University of Kentucky's College of Communication and Information Studies, where he taught courses in U.S. and international telecommunications and directed graduate and doctoral research in various aspects of telecommunications, public policy and the information economy. His own research focused on strategic alliances among global telecom operators, on telecommunications and economic development, and on the institutional reforms restructuring the telecom sector worldwide.
Before academia, Shiv worked as a news reporter and editor on several newspapers in India and the United States. Shiv has a B.A. in Economics from Calcutta University, Calcutta, India. He earned an M.A. in Telecommunications and a Ph. D. in Communication, both from the Ohio State University.
He works out of IDC's headquarters in Framingham, MA.
