Philip Carter
Associate Research Director, Asia/Pacific IT Services Research
IDC Asia/Pacific
Philip Carter is the Associate Research Director for IDC's Asia/Pacific Services group, based in Singapore. Philip leads IDC's Asia/Pacific syndicated research coverage across both the business and IT services markets. He is tasked with identifying emerging trends, new business & pricing models and assessing how these interconnect with the software and hardware markets along 'solution lines'. This could be at the application layer (e.g. ERM, CRM, SCM and Business Intelligence), or from an infrastructure perspective (e.g. Security, Storage BCDR and Data Center Services) and then matching these solutions to end-user demands in terms of awareness and adoption trends amongst CIOs across the region.
Prior to joining IDC, Philip spent 7 years with SAS Institute. Initially he worked for the SAS European Headquarters in Germany, where he built up the market intelligence function focusing on competitive analysis, market research and analyst relations. He subsequently moved to Singapore, where he was head of the Public Sector practice for SAS in the Asia/Pacific region. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing and growing the business in the government, healthcare and education sectors, with a primary focus on Japan and Korea. This work was in conjunction with regional service providers with the objective of developing information management E-Government strategies for public sector organizations in the region. His experience in working with government agencies exposed him to the recent regulations and drivers towards 'Greener' IT in Asia/Pacific – and this is one of the focus areas of his research at IDC.
