"Business Continuity + Disaster Recovery Plans = Backup & Archive: The True State of Affairs for Asia/Pacific?"
Willie Low

Market Analyst, Infrastructure Software
IDC
For quite a while, IT practitioners, vendors and governments have been stressing the importance of having a holistic, updated and tested business
continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) plan for businesses. As a result,
today we are seeing a variety of best practices and guidelines for BCDR
planning in the marketplace. But have all these efforts resulted in a more
resilient IT infrastructure for businesses? In his presentation, Mr. Willie
Low will be sharing IDC latest research on the state of affairs regarding
Asia/Pacific companies' BCDR architecture. Covering 16 industries across 12
countries, the presentation reviews if businesses today are doing what they
should? What works for SMBs and enterprises distinctly? And crucially, what
still needs to be done?

IP Security : Propelling Growth
Andrew Namboka
Chief Technologist, Asia Pacific
Nokia Enterprise Solutions
Security is a cornerstone in the IT strategy of all forward-looking enterprises, irrespective of size. With  a business eco-system that is rapidly undergoing change in the way it conducts day to day business, IT planners are challenged to match network infrastructure to evolving business needs. Enabling business growth is now fundamental to any IT roadmap. This presentation will highlight the trends  in the world of communications and how these, in turn, are driving new developments in network security.

Mapping your strategy: aligning the security & business continuity strategy with your company's business objectives
Paul Marshall

Senior Technology Consultant, HP Managed Services
HP Asia Pacific

Business Continuity is not an “all or nothing” proposition; it is more of a spectrum of readiness ranging from industry best practices, such as routine backups which are safely stored offsite, to full-scale continuity plans which may invoke a standby system or activate interim processing using an alternate facility. Business Continuity is a way of doing business that ensures the infrastructure has the ability to maintain operations in the event of a significant adverse event (physical calamity, sabotage, natural disaster, etc).

Applying Intelligent Security to Minimize Business Disruption
Dean Ocampo
Product Marketing Manager
Check Point Software Technologies

In 2005 companies throughout Asia are expected to spend 17% of their IT budget on information security. Many organizations are increasing their IT spending on proper security measures that will ensure business continuity.

System downtime can cost companies millions of dollars in lost business and
productivity. Business disruption and security breaches continue to be the top security concern facing businesses both large and small.

In this session delegates will learn how they can protect their business by applying intelligent, multi layer security solutions to minimize disruptions due to security breaches, optimize worker productivity with secure access, and ensure system uptime.

Emerging Trends in Perimeter Security Appliances
Vishak Raman
Country Manager
Fortinet Inc.

The perimeter security landscape is going through a sea change in terms of customer requirements. The exponential growth of content-based attacks in the last few years has much to do with these dramatic changes. As computer networks become more critical to businesses and threats and counter-measures become more complex, purchasing specialized software solutions for firewall, VPN, anti-virus and Intrusion Detection and prevention quickly become less attractive because of manageability issues and high costs. Organizations are beginning to keenly evaluate network security appliances which integrate many security functions into one box. IDC projected a CAGR for UTM appliances of 80.1 % over the conventional Firewall/VPN appliances which has a negative CAGR of (– 0.2 %) for 2003 – 2008 - IDC October 2004.

These findings are interesting in the light of the huge debate in India right now, on the benefits of point products as compared to integrated security appliances. The argument that point products offer better security through a more specialized feature-set is apparently losing ground against the easier manageability and lower cost of integrated platform solutions.
