The objective of the
Verticals Research Group (VRG) of IDC India is to assess
the status of ten key vertical industry segments and chart
out in detail the critical business imperatives that would
drive their IT spending.
IDC India VRG seeks to map the integration of IT with
the business objectives of organisations and the impact of
internal factors as well as the external environment on
their IT spending.

The VRG team further seeks to add value
to its research effort by tracking industry-specific
updates in the business press, viewing news clippings,
and attending vertical industry seminars and
get-togethers.

Verticals Segments Covered |

- Government: Covers the National IT Policy, the National e-Governance Action Plan, the key government IT nodal agencies, urban as well as rural G2C services, their accessibility and affordability, computerization initiatives of the key central (federal) government departments and the key state (provincial) governments, and the government IT planning and decision-making processes.
- Banking and Insurance: Covers banks (both public and private sector), insurance companies (both life and non-life), and mutual funds.
- BPO/ITeS : Covers services like content creation and development, technical support services, engineering design and R&D services, back-end human resources, financial accounting, and so on.
- Manufacturing: Covers sectors such as automobiles, textiles and garments, and FMCG.

- Media and Entertainment: Includes all the segments playing a part in the creation of media and entertainment. It includes television, radio, print media, Internet media, films, multiplexes, music, gaming, and online advertising.
- Utilities: Also referred to as infrastructure services sector, it includes power and oil and gas.
- Retail: It is a super-category comprising the retail trade and wholesale of goods. It includes enterprises involved in the sale or resale of goods, such as general merchandise stores, food stores, home furniture, including furnishings, appliances, electronics and music stores, eating and drinking places and others.
